- nichills
- /nikalz/ In old English practice, debts due to the exchequer which the sheriff could not levy, and as to which he returned nil. These sums were transcribed once a year by the clerk of the nichills, and sent to the treasurer's remembrancer's office, whence process was issued to recover the "nichill" debts. Both of these offices were abolished in 1833
